![]() There are dozens of cuneiform records of original Mesopotamian eclipse observations. ![]() The zodiac was a Babylonian invention of great antiquity and eclipses of the sun and moon were foretold. A Bible passage referring to Babylonia is found in Genesis 10:8-10: "Chus begat Nemrod, and the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon and Arach and Achad and Chalanne in the land of Sennaar."Īmong the sciences, astronomy and astrology occupied an important postition in Babylonian society. Although they lived in a desert area, they used a very complex system of irrigation to water their crops. The Babylonians lived in the area of present day southern Iraq, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Click here for tables of Babylonian, Mayan, and Greek numerals. It was perhaps the first city to reach a population above 200,000. It has been estimated that Babylon was the largest city in the world from 1770 to 1670 BC, and again between 612 and 320 BC. A very intelligent people and extremly advanced for their time, they valued both mathematics and literature. They were very skilled in the arts, science and mathematics. This hypothesis is based on the contradictions which arise between the choice of signs and their use (as can be seen from the statistical analysis of ancient texts), from ancient Greek “Logistikē” (mathematical calculations), from archaeological finds and from the examples of other writing systems, which were also created (or adapted accordingly) so as to serve the needs of mathematics – namely Hebrew, Arabic, Coptic, Armenian, Georgian, and other alphabets. The Babylonians, one of the first civilizations, existed about 4000 to 2500 years ago. This paper supports that, from the very beginning, the alphabet should have had 27 signs in order to meet the needs of mathematics, that is to meet the necessity of using the enneads of the Egyptian numeral system, which probably was transferred to Greeks via the Semitic writing system. The arithmetic use of letters is considered by epigraphologists and Hellenists a later development, occurring two or three centuries after the invention of the Greek alphabet. So, the 24 letter-signs were also digit-signs. These 27 signs formed the three enneads of the Greek (Milesian) Numeral System, which was in use in Eastern Mediterranean and parts of Europe for almost 2.000 years (700 BC till 1200 AD). The Babylonian number system is the oldest in the. In the case of Ancient Greece the “24 letters of the alphabet” plus “3 additional signs” were used to notate the numbers. Ancient number systems refer to the symbols used to denote numerals as developed by the Babylonians, Romans, Maya, Hindu, and Arabic cultures. This paper discusses the relation between letters and numbers in the case of ancient Greek and other writing systems and supports that the use of letters of the alphabet (and so the writing of the language) was constrained by the necessities of mathematics. ![]() The article concludes by considering the recent suggestion that the Seal series may have acquired its privileged status because its symbols reflect “shape archetypes” that are hard-wired into the human nervous system. The review also explores the possibility that at least some of the symbols originated in numerological ciphers or religious emblems, canvassing sources as diverse as Indian Hinduism and Byzantine Christendom. It then considers the possibility that the Seals’ origins lie in other cuneiform symbols from ancient Mesopotamia in Egyptian hieroglyphs or scripts in paleo-Hebrew characters or the letters of ancient South Arabian scripts in Libyco-Berber or Tifinagh letters from North Africa or in the symbol repertoire of Late Antique magic, including the highly potent seven Greek vowels. It first examines the possibility that a precedent for the Seal series exists in an undecipherable “seven signs repeated seven times” inscribed on a Late Babylonian amulet. The present survey focuses on potential sources for the symbols rather than on their exegesis. Hans Winkler in 1930, a wider-ranging and more modern review is long overdue. As this topic was first – and last – examined systematically by Dr. While many Seal symbols make sporadic appearances in early Islamic amulets bearing Kufic script, the source of the symbols and their eventual ordering remains a matter of legend. The Seven Seals of medieval Islamic magic, which are believed to constitute the Greatest Name of God, also feature in Jewish Kabbalah from the same period.

![]() Our results demonstrate the value of our novel large-scale DNA barcode library generation framework for use in high-throughput screening applications.īiomaterials induced host immune responses, and fibrotic overgrowth remains a major barrier to the long-term function of medical devices and biomaterial consisting of tissue grafts. We also report generating a general purpose one billion DNA barcode library, the largest such library yet reported in literature. As a proof of concept, we demonstrate that our framework is able to generate a library consisting of one million DNA barcodes for use in a fragment antibody phage display screening experiment. We show that our framework dramatically reduces the computation time required to generate large-scale DNA barcode libraries, compared with a naїve approach to DNA barcode library generation. Here we report a novel framework to quickly generate large-scale libraries of DNA barcodes for use in high-throughput screens. To be useful in experimental settings, the DNA barcodes in a library must satisfy certain constraints related to GC content, homopolymer length, Hamming distance, and blacklisted subsequences. In barcoded screens, DNA barcodes are linked to target biomolecules in a manner allowing for the target molecules making up a library to be identified by sequencing the DNA barcodes using Next Generation Sequencing. Because every UPC code is unique, the inventory management system can’t malfunction and pull up something else erroneously.High-throughput screens allow for the identification of specific biomolecules with characteristics of interest. UPC barcodes are registered with a company called GS1, which is well-known and officially recognized by most major retailers. At its most basic, it is a string of 12 numbers attached to a single product that isn’t shared with any other product anywhere in the world. The algorithm that generates your UPC barcode will automatically give you the correct the Check Sum digit in order for your UPC barcode number to be considered legitimate. If you noticed that your far right digit changed after you generated your barcode, it’s likely that some user error took place when inputting your barcode number. The digit at the far right of any UPC barcode, officially known as the Check Sum digit, is actually an automatic summation of the previous 11 digits. Why did the far right number of my UPC barcode number change? It takes almost no time at all, and you’ll have your new UPC barcodes in high-resolution JPEG format ready to go in your inbox. That doesn't mean you can't stack them to reduce a spell back to it's original level. The answer is no, you can't stack Wayang and Magical Lineage to reduce a first or second level spell below it's original level. I will see to it that the language of this ability is clarified soon and I will get this added to the FAQ. It was put in to allow you to reduce the increase from a metamagic feat. Magical Lineage was never intended as a way for you to actually lower a spell's level. ![]() The Devs' intent here is crystal clear to say the least. Jacobs keeps the same stance on this over the years. Whenever you cast that spell, its effects manifest at +1 caster level. Wild Heroic Brawliseum’s format is similar to the Hearthstone Arena mode in the way that players lock in a deck and compete until they either get to 12 wins or are defeated 3 times.I had a similar question some time ago (do not remember in which thread though) and someone official answered that a similar benefit given by 2 traits could not stack, even if it was not called out as being a trait bonusĮDIT : Found it. On the positive side, it’s got a very simple interface and it’s very fast. Picturenaut HDR is not the best HDR creation software out there, but it gets the job done for me. Here are the tools I’ve found useful for these applications: While Capture NX 2 handles development and retouching of single images, some times you need multi-image solutions for panoramas and HDRs. Yeah, batch conversion is a pain so if you do a lot of batch conversions, you might have to get something else or use View NX2 if you can live with its glacial speed of conversion and limited retouching support. I’ve tried LR3 and I didn’t like it as much as CNX2. Though a lot of people say it’s not as great as Aperture or Lightroom, I disagree. I’ve come to love the very functional interface. You want a full colour as well as a monochrome version of the same snap? Sure, your NEF can carry multiple sets of editing steps all in itself It supports multiple edit-versions of the same file. The ability to retain the exact settings used to create a JPEG is amazing! It saves all the development and retouch settings right within the NEF file. It’s got the U-Point controls that make selective retouching really really easy, without requiring you to drop into complex layer masks, etc., which I could never get the hang of.Really awesome to have this if you’re shooting with Nikon’s own lenses It has in-built lens correction features like distortion control, CA control and vignetting. It recognises all the camera settings used while taking a photograph and applies them as a starting point while developing the image. It’s arguably the best converter for Nikon’s RAW files, giving rich tones, smooth gradations and excellent detail.Nikon Capture NX 2.2.4 ($180): This software is all that I use for developing my images. for a month or few months, I copy the finished and shortlisted content to a more permanent backup solution (DVDs, in my case). When I’m done with all the processing, etc. It doesn’t happen often but on the rare occasion that it does, it’s good to know that you’ve got all the shots with you. The backup copy is always there, just in case I need to revert on my decisions. Please note that while I ruthlessly delete items based on the star rating assigned as above, I do it only on the primary working copy. Unlikely to be uploaded to Flickr or printed. 4 Stars: Awesome snap! Convert, retouch and upload to Flickr.5 Stars: Awesome snap! Convert, retouch and upload to Flickr. Here’s the rating system that I’ve evolved for myself over the months: The way it allows files to be compared at 100% zoom and the way it can filter the film strip on rating ranges makes it extremely easy to do so. I primarily use it to select the photos that I want to develop. It has also started offering the basic photo editing options that are available in Nikon cameras’ retouch menu. ViewNX 2 allows rating and tagging photos, while also allowing for conversion of RAW files into JPEGs or 8/16-bit TIFFs. ViewNX 2 is a recent release from Nikon and Nikon Transfer now comes bundled with it. I drop the camera-wise separation for permanent archival. The RAW files get dropped directly into those folders and the converted JPEGs go into a subfolder. My folder hierarchy for transferring these photos into is like this:Ĭamera Model/Name > Year > MonthNumber-MonthName or EventNameĮ.g. I don’t normally use this option but I’ve needed it once or twice so I thought it might be worth mentioning. It allows manually selecting the photos to be transferred. It detects which photos have already been transferred from a batch and skips those (configurable). It allows simultaneously downloading the photos to a secondary location, which in my case happens to be just another disk partition but can also be an external USB drive (I’m contemplating doing the latter, going forward).Anyway, so Nikon Transfer is launched when the SD card is inserted and the nice thing about this software is that I’ve tried connecting the camera through its own USB interface and through the built-in card reader on my computer, but I find that the San Disk card reader that came with my Extreme III card gives the fastest throughput. This is the program that detects photos on external media and transfers them to a local disk or other external media. Just to set the context, I use Microsoft Windows 7 for my imaging tasks, and my camera is a Nikon D90, so I do use a lot of Nikon software. I’d also outline my workflow as I present each software in the order in which it appears in the workflow. ![]() As my photos get backed up and burnt on to a DVD, I thought I might just do a quick cataloguing of the software I’ve found useful for developing my photographs and what each does. ![]() “My greatest achievement is surviving a mosh pit for the entire duration of a Vader concert during a 500,000 people music festival while wearing just a swimsuit,” he shared. lPZIbKf4dbĮven though the game wasn’t technically built with mosh pits in mind, Sos tells me that he loves mosh pits all the same, so much so that he even has a book of mosh pit paintings from artist Dan Witz.
